De-stress ‘shake it out’ technique
Stress and anxiety generate hormones in our brain and body, which need to be released, or countered with other feelings. One of the best ways to ‘complete the stress cycle’ is through physical activity.
This simple, fun ‘Shake it Out’ technique can be used by the whole family in very limited space.
1. Stand with your feet about a hip’s width apart, or a little bit wider.
2. Bend your knees slightly and, being mindful not to injure yourself, begin shaking your whole body.
3. Shake however feels good to you, gently or more intensely. This allows a physical release for hormones triggered by stress and anxiety and helps to calm our body and mind.
4. On each out-breath, make sounds to help release anxiety, as quietly or as loudly as you like.
5. Shake and sound for at least two minutes, longer if it feels good.
